Tiny Changes Lead to Remarkable Results
It’s the little things that make the big things possible.

Change can be overwhelming.
And even though I’ve read Paulo Coehlo’s The Alchemist numerous times, it can still be pretty hard to navigate big changes in my life.
We just got back from visiting my daughter who is immersing herself in music as a high school senior at Interlochen Arts Academy. This has meant a significant change for all of us, with our firstborn far away from home, our second child becoming kind of an only child, and Mom & Dad desperate to give our daughter wings but nurture the roots at the same time! We’ve all gone through some emotional highs and lows over the last six weeks.

Having worked with investors of all sorts over the past 25 years, I will tell you that making big changes in your process can be equally as disorienting. It’s scary to change your routines and habits and processes, even if you know they’re suboptimal!
Change is just hard.
Just remember… we don’t need to make huge changes to make a huge difference.
As James Clear points out in his fantastic book Atomic Habits, “Tiny changes lead to remarkable results.” It’s not about changing everything about your process today. It’s about making one small change. And then making another. And another.
And over time, the positive results begin to compound.
It’s great to have long-term goals. It’s so helpful to have a vision of where you want to be and what sort of successes you want to experience. But that does not mean you need to make monster changes today.
Just focus on small, incremental tweaks to your process.
Mindless investors are afraid to make any changes to their process, because big changes are super scary.
Mindful investors know that big results can come from small, incremental improvements.
What’s one small tweak you can make this week to help you on your journey to more mindful investing?

Dave
